50 Ways To Chill

Stressed out? Need a break? I thought of some simple ways to just chill out and relax.
- Turn off the TV – Maybe you can relax in front of the glowing screen, but sometimes its good to take a break from the high frequency sound.
- Turn off the cell – And not just your cell phone, but turn off all your distractions, like instant messengers and e-mail notifiers.
- Take something apart – Have you ever taken apart an old electronic gadget or computer. It can be very fun and relaxing. Try it.
- People watch – People watching is the funnest thing to do, I swear. Go to a park or a restaurant and just watch people.
- Have a healthy bite – Eat a carrot or some celery. Staying healthy makes you feel healthy. And when you feel healthy, its much easier to relax.
- Cook – Find an old recipe book and start cooking.
- Light a candle – Turn out the lights and light up a candle. The darker room creates a more relaxed mood and the aromas of the candle can cheer up your nose.
- Pet something – Preferably, pet a cat or dog. But you could also pet any other animals or even your blanky if your that lonely.
- Take a walk – Whether its sunny, snowy, rainy, or at night, just take a walk. Down the street, through your backyard, along the beach, barefoot, with a friend. If your sitting in front of some stressful business work or home work, getting up and walking is the best thing to do. And your legs will be happy too.
- Meditate – Yoga, Zen, Prayer, Mindfulness, or just sitting peacefully. Meditating clears the mind, lowers the heart rate, and helps to lower our anxiety.
- Sketch – Draw a picture or just color on some paper. Be crafty and original.
- Scribble – Write a poem, a journal, a letter, a goal, a novel. Just start writing.
- “Talk” – Get a buddy and start talking to him or her. I remember one time when I was feeling really down. I was behind on studying, feeling a little lonely, and starting to get sick. I went to my friend’s room and started chatting. I didn’t chat about being sick and lonely. Instead I talked about good things. I felt so good after that.
- Shhhh – It isn’t always about talking though. Sometimes its much better to zip it and just listen.
- Doggy paddle – Go for a swim in the lake, river, or pool. The exercise is great for stress and the water feels very refreshing.
- LOL – Just laugh. Humor is one of the best stress relievers, because it gets your mind of what is making you anxious and feels good.
- Get a massage – Enough said…
- Exercise your talent – Do what you enjoy!
- Plant a garden – Get some seeds. Plant the seeds. Water the seeds. Soon after that you’ll have a beautiful garden of wonderful flowers or maybe even a garden of tasty veggies.
- Read – Grab a book and relax. Books are different from movies, because of they get you thinking. Movies just feed you images, but with books you make your own images. Books get your mind flowing.
- Sing – La la la. Hum a tune. Karaoke.
- Get jiggy with it – Dance along to your favorite song. Fast dancing is a great way to exercise and have fun. Slow dancing is also great, because it is done with another person and is very relaxing. So, grab someone and slow dance. Besides, when is the last time you slow danced?
- Wash up – Take a bath or a shower. The heat and the water feel great on your body and soothes your aching muscles.
- Hammock – Just lay out in the breeze. ahhh
- Watch the birds – Enjoy nature for its patience and its peace.
- Snapshot – Take some pictures.
- Breath – Take some deep breaths.
- Hold up! – Are you going too fast? Slow down. Walk slower and enjoy your surroundings.
- Herbal tea – Pop a tea bag right into some hot water. The steam that rises from the cup can open up your sinuses and let you breath deeper. The wonderful aroma from your favorite flavor is great as well.
- Daydream – Stare out the window or at the wall and start daydreaming. Daydreaming, to me, is like a mini-vacation, because you can daydream of being on a beach or on a cloud.
- Up up up – Get up earlier. Waking up earlier lets you get some peace and quiet before everyone else in the house is up.
- Scream – Have you ever felt so much pressure that you just felt like screaming? Screaming releases the tension we’ve built up inside us.
- Take a nap – ZZZZZ…
- Stretch – Stretching loosens up your muscles and is possible the best exercise that there is.
- Get Things Done – Quit procrastinating and get your work done. Chances are, a lot of your stressing is done over things that need to be done. So why not just do it?
- Sip some wine – Don’t go drink your problems away, but have a glass of wine or two.
- Count the stars/watch the clouds – Laying on your back is a great resting position and staring up at the sky is so awesome.
- Use your mind – Do something complicated. Try to figure a tough problem out.
- Board game – Play a game with the family or some friends. Just be careful not to get to competitive.
- Loosen up your belt – Sometimes wearing your clothes too tight can cause stress, so loosen up your belt and let your blood flow.
- Get dirty – Jump in some muddy puddles or wash a car (actually gets you cleaner).
- Exercise – Running or pumping some iron gets your blood flowing and your muscles working. Its also another form of tension and release.
- Picnic at a park – This is a mix of ones mentioned earlier (eat a healthy bite, enjoy nature, chat with friends, watch the clouds, people watch). Many times it is great to take part in multiple stress relieving activities.
- Clean up – Clear the clutter in your house, on your desk, in your closet… The less clutter you have the more relaxed you’ll feel.
- Compliment – Make someone’s day. This will make that person and yourself feel great.
- High quality H20 – Get your 8-10 ounces of water in a day. Did you know that most headaches are caused by dehydration. So rather than taking Advil, just drink water.
- Simplify – Here’s a simple one, simplify.
- Quit caffeine – Caffeine is no good. Smaller doses may give you a quick boost of energy, but higher doses can lead to irritation, more stress, anxiety, and depression.
- Stop using drugs – Don’t use drugs to help you relax. It’s not worth the time or money.
- Put the wallet away – When you buy things to make you feel better, you only put yourself in more debt. Then that makes you feel even more worse, which makes you want to spend even more. Just put the wallet away.

Into the Wild
Wow. I am impressed. You are a serious list maker. Thanks for the great ideas!
Are you going to be a therapist by any chance?
4. People watch – People watching is the funnest thing to do, I swear. Go to a park or a restaurant and just watch people.
(LOL) people do it all the time here in Kuwait. But you would be labeled as a staring freak and that’s not very nice.
Megan – Thanks Megan!
Bumblebee – Therapist? maybe. I like to stare, what can I say. haha
50 ways to chill, refreshing. I usually see so many lists on way to improve you life or be more productive. One the greatest sources of happiness is just chillin’ though. =D
1. TV is a pacifier; I guess it could have some benefit, but one needs to select the proper content, which better comes from recordings you choose.
9. Walking is actually the healthiest exercise, I read. It injures the least amount of people, is just effective for most of the body as running, and can help people with addictions, etc. by refocussing their attention and changing the hormonal balance within them due to exercise. Walking is a great exercise and is our most normal body state, rather than sitting or running. We do need to run or have other strenuous activity, though, to strengthen our major muscles, but walking is a great way to keep circulation flowing well, especially for older people who don’t need as much exertion to get a good workout.
13. Talking diverts attention and helps put things in perspective, as well as introducing things into our life that we forgot about or wouldn’t think of on our own.
37., 41., 43. I wouldn’t have ever thought of these, but would have easily as a kid.
45. Felt the urge to go on a compliment storm and give one compliment to everyone I know before reading this. I may now do that.
I’m writing a book on anxiety (I have a lot of material…) and took a few things from your list; thank you! I think that your blog is doing much more good than I thought it was and I’m proud of you; it’s good to have a roommate and friend who is making a difference. Hope Bonaresponds is fun!
I don’t have an account domer, so i thought i would just leave it anonymous (its brian) ahha. i miss you roomy. this is really really good stuff man.. number 51.
way to chill.
51. read simple zack.
keep it up. i like to read your blogs. take it easy.
dude…thanks man!
Man – #4 is me! Haha! I love people watching. I try to be like Mycroft and Sherlock and watch people and analyze how old their are, what’s their story and how they are feeling.
One of the easiest ones I like is to tell what is a person’s dominant hand. For men it’s their wallet, it’s usually in the dominant back pocket. For women their purse is usually on their dominant side.
I also loved how Jason Bourne sized everyone up in the restaurant.
Thats so interesting! I’m actually going to try that now. I always like to put myself in their position, especially if their on stage or in an awkward situation. See things through their eyes, you know.
these are thins I used to do and have forgotten about over the years. Thanks for reintroducing me to them. My fave is to be clutter free. This does make a difference to your life, and its easier to clean. Thanks!!!!
